Farm to Juicer - August

After a good deal of research, we finally bought a juicer and it has been one of the best kitchen investments to date. When Rob and I need a fast and healthy breakfast or snack we almost always hit the juice. One caveat is that I probably wouldn't have gone with the dual disk had I known we weren't going to use the smoothie feature. Two excellent single-disk options (also less expensive) are here and here.

In terms of ingredients, the farmers market dictates what we put through the machine. My favorite season for juicing is fall since homemade apple blends are nothing short of magical. Apples are already appearing at the market which means we still have peaches and boot-wearing pumpkin weather is just around the corner. Can't handle it.

Recipe

A couple of weeks back I had some extra ingredients laying around and decided to throw them all together for this juice recipe. I was prepared to choke down the concoction but was pleasantly surprised by how tasty it was. I think it's the sweetness of the melon that brings the whole thing together. I've also made the recipe with 2-3 handfuls of baby spinach. Kale is fine, but it has a much stronger flavor so that throws the balance off.

Ingredients

  • 2 oranges, peeled
  • 5 carrots, peeled
  • 1 beet, scrubbed
  • 2 cups melon

Cheers!
